About the role: 

You’ll lead regional regulatory operations in the West Metropolitan Region, protecting communities and the environment from pollution and waste. Managing a small, multidisciplinary team, you’ll lead the delivery of operational plans and oversee regulatory projects aligned to EPA’s annual compliance programs and strategic priorities.

 

In this role you will:  

  • Lead and manage a high-performing regulatory team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, inclusion and ethical practice.
  • Lead regional regulatory operations across the West Metropolitan Melbourne Region, including operational planning, resource allocation, workforce planning, project delivery and performance reporting.
  • Provide oversight of annual compliance planning activities and ensure operational projects are delivered in line with EPA compliance programs and regulatory priorities.
  • Ensure regulatory activities are delivered safely and in accordance with relevant legislation, regulatory frameworks, policies and procedures.
  • Apply appropriate regulatory tools, instruments and regulatory posture to drive effective compliance and enforcement outcomes.
  • Respond to environmental and public health incidents and contribute to emergency and incident response activities as required.

 

Skills and experience: 

  • Proven leadership experience in a regulatory environment (e.g. environmental regulation or government compliance), with demonstrated people and performance management capability.
  • Strong ability to lead, motivate and develop teams, supporting capability uplift and continuous improvement.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, regulatory frameworks, compliance programs and government processes.
  • Demonstrated experience using regulatory tools and instruments to achieve proportionate and effective regulatory outcomes.
  • A proactive, adaptable and collaborative approach, with a strong commitment to continuous improvement and public value.
