About the role:
Reporting to the Director, Metropolitan Melbourne Area, the Regional Manager, Northern Metropolitan Melbourne Region, leads and manages a team responsible for EPA’s ‘on-ground’ front line regulatory response across the Northern Metropolitan Melbourne Region to prevent harm to communities and the environment from pollution and waste.
This is a senior management role that is part of EPA’s executive team, leading a positive organisational culture, ensuring that the highest standards of performance and integrity are achieved; and fostering genuine partnerships across all levels of government, industry, and community to deliver organisational outcomes.
In this role you will:
- Manage the allocation of resources, budgets, business and project planning and reporting; and demonstrate a strong commitment to a positive culture and the development of staff.
- Be an active member of the executive team at EPA, contributing to the overall operational strategy and direction of the organisation, ensuring a one-EPA approach to the delivery of priorities; build a high performing workforce that is safety and wellbeing focussed, outcome-orientated, collaborative, innovative, professional, and engaged.
- Lead the region in building, maintaining and leveraging strategic relationships and partnerships to ensure that the EPA is a trusted and influential authority in advancing the prevention of harm to the environment and human health from pollution and waste; effectively represent the EPA in the local community and at external forums.
- Oversight the planning and delivery of regulatory operations in the region, including preventative projects, compliance programs and the delivery of other program of works, to achieve EPA’s strategic priorities in preventing harm to communities and the environment from pollution and waste, including engagement and education, compliance monitoring and inspections, and managing non-compliance via regulatory notices and enforcement action; lead the regions response to environmental and public health incidents and emergencies, working in collaboration with Regulatory Services Branch and other parts of EPA.
To be successful in this role you will possess:
- A proven record of achievement in a senior management role leading a business unit through change to achieve high performance and a positive organisational culture along with senior management experience leading regulatory operations in government, or equivalent.
- A knowledge of community engagement practices and understanding of the communities in Northern Metropolitan Melbourne Region.
- Proven ability to mobilise efforts across the business and with external stakeholders to achieve outcomes and be able to influence and communicate at all levels.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including building a shared sense of direction, clarifying priorities; identifies and responds proactively to strategic issues impacting the operating environment.
- Demonstrated capacity to be across broad range of issues that change quickly, be dynamic and responsive in nature but also be able to plan and be strategic.
