Salary: VPS 4 $100,894 - $114,476 + 12% super

Location: 33 Mackay Street, North Geelong - Hybrid work arrangement (3 days in office) (Intra/interstate travel as required)

About the role:

You'll conduct proactive and reactive investigations into suspected breaches of environmental crime, with a focus on pollution and waste offences. Working as part of EPA’s Environmental Crime Branch, you’ll play a key role in identifying high-risk offenders, preventing environmental harm, and holding those who breach environmental laws to account.

 

In this role you will:

  • Deliver proactive and reactive investigations into suspected breaches of environmental offences.
  • Gather evidence, prepare high-quality briefs of evidence, and appear in court as the informant where required.  
  • Work closely with operations teams, Legal Branch and intelligence functions to support EPA’s regulatory priorities.
  • Respond to environmental and public health incidents and emergencies as required.
  • Ensure all investigations meet legislative, evidentiary, procedural and compliance requirements.

 

Skills and experience:

  • Experience conducting criminal or regulatory investigations, including the gathering, assessment and documentation of evidence. 
  • Ability to prepare clear reports, witness statements and briefs of evidence.
  • Strong judgement, problem solving and decision-making skills in a legislative environment.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to engage a range of stakeholders.
  • Relevant qualifications in investigations, law, criminology, environmental science or similar (desirable).
