About the role:
You will lead and manage a small team responsible for providing expert advice and guidance on water technologies including storm water, recycled water and waste water treatment. You will inform regulatory and strategic decisions by the EPA about complex water and wastewater treatment problems, aligned to EPA’s strategic priorities to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste.
This is a senior role for an experienced engineer that wants to contribute to the success of the EPA as it enters a new era of environmental protection in Victoria. Working closely with the Manager, Water Sciences, you will lead and manage a team through change, ensuring a positive organisational culture and that the highest standards of performance and integrity are achieved; and fostering genuine partnerships across all levels of government, industry, and community to deliver organisational outcomes
In this role you will:
- Lead the provision of engineering and technical advice, guidance, and deliver programs on water and wastewater treatment, that meet the priority needs of the EPA as a science-based regulator.
- Deliver technical and engineering advice to inform regulatory and strategic decisions about water and wastewater treatment, ensuing an understanding of potential environmental impacts of different options.
- Communicate scientific/technical information about water and wastewater treatment to a wide variety of audiences, including the results of associated research and analysis.
- Identify and deliver new projects and science to address water and wastewater treatment issues, working with academia and other research organisations to address knowledge to optimise outcomes for the EPA and the community.
Skills and experience:
- A tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualifications in environmental engineering or equivalent, preferably with specialisation in water and/or wastewater treatment.
- Senior level experience in the delivery of applied environmental sciences, preferably related to water and/or wastewater treatment
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including building a shared sense of direction, clarifying priorities; identifies and responds proactively to strategic issues impacting the operating environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in water, wastewater treatment and environmental risk assessment.
