About the role:
Reporting to the Senior Scientist - Water Technology, the Engineer is a member of a small team responsible for providing expert advice, guidance and delivering program in water technologies including storm water, recycled water and wastewater treatment. You will inform regulatory and strategic decisions by the EPA about complex water and wastewater treatment problems, aligned to EPA’s strategic priorities to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste. This is an exciting role for an engineer that wants to contribute to the success of the EPA. Working under broad direction of the Senior Scientist - Water Technology, you will actively contribute to a positive organisational culture and that the highest standards of performance and integrity are achieved; and fostering genuine partnerships across all levels of government, industry, and community to support the delivery organisational outcomes.
In this role you will:
- Working under the direction of the Senior Scientist - Water Technology, plan and deliver high quality stormwater, recycled water, and wastewater treatment scientific advice, information, publications, and programs, that meet the needs of the EPA as a science-based regulator and ensuring alignment to EPA’s strategic priorities.
- Support the delivery of scientific advice to inform regulatory and strategic decisions about complex water and wastewater treatment and solutions for complex water and wastewater treatment problems, ensuing an understanding of potential environmental impacts of different options.
- Communicate scientific / technical information about complex water and wastewater treatment and solutions for complex water and wastewater treatment problems to a wide variety of audiences, including the results of associated research and analysis.
- Contribute to the analysis of scientific evidence and preparation of statements of opinion for use in compliance and enforcement activities, including prosecutions.
Skills and experience:
- A tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualifications in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering or equivalent, preferably with specialisation in water and/or wastewater treatment.
- Experience in delivery of applied environmental sciences, preferably related to water and/or wastewater treatment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of water including stormwater and recycled water and wastewater treatment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of environmental risk assessment.
