About the role: 

You will lead and manage a team responsible for the leading provision of strategic planning advice. You will engage with State and local government to provide authoritative advice and influence planning outcomes, aligned to EPA’s strategic priorities to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste.

 

In this role you will:  

  • Lead and manage a team to achieve high standards of performance, accountability, collaboration, ethics, and integrity; manage the allocation of resources, budgets, business and project planning and reporting; and demonstrate a strong commitment to a positive culture and the development of staff.

  • Provide strategic advice and support to planning officers within State and local government, including advice on structure or precinct plans, planning scheme amendments and planning policy or process to ensure the prevention of harm to the environment and human health is considered up front in land use planning.

  • Develop strategic relationships with local government and State Government departments and agencies involved in strategic planning to provide insight to future proposals to enable more efficient and effective servicing by EPA.

  • Provide authoritative and timely advice on the environmental protection framework.

 

Skills and experience: 

  • Experience leading a land use planning function, preferably within Government.

  • Experience leading a high performing team.

  • Very detailed knowledge of the Environment Protection Act 2017 and Planning and Environment Act 1987 and the Victorian Planning System.

  • Knowledge of strategic and statutory planning processes, and the translation of policy and guidance into practical application.

  • Knowledge of the Environment Effects Act 1978 and Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990.
