Fixed term full time role until 12 October 2027

Salary - VPS 5.2: $124,888 to $136,747 + 12% superannuation

About the role:

Reporting to the Manager, Field Specialists, the Team Leader, Field Specialists - Waste is a senior member of a team responsible for providing expertise to support frontline compliance and enforcement actions across the state. You lead a small team in the provision of expert compliance and enforcement reviews, technical advice and operational support relating to waste and high-risk sites, aligned to EPA’s strategic priorities to prevent harms to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste. 

In this role you will:

• Plan and deliver programs to improve the regulation of hazardous waste and high-risk sites, developing risk-based approaches to solving environmental and human health problems, including supporting implementation of the Coordinated Prevention and Response Framework for High-risk Waste Sites.
• Work closely with regional operations teams in implementing compliance and enforcement audits, reviews and actions for complex sites and cases related to waste and high-risk sites.
• Provide specialist expertise to support effective frontline regulation of waste and high-risk sites aligned to EPA’s strategic priorities.
• Support investigations and enforcement action relating to waste and high-risk sites; provide input into policy, permissioning, programs / projects and other work being undertaken across EPA aligned to strategic and regulatory priorities.

To be successful in this role you will possess:

• A relevant tertiary degree or qualifications is desirable.
• Senior level experience and recognised expertise in the regulation of waste and high-risk sites.
• A detailed knowledge and understanding of Victoria’s environmental protection laws.
• Advanced management skills and demonstrated capability to plan, monitor and deliver multiple concurrent projects / programs, including risk identification and management, budget development and management; optimise the allocation and use of resources; and evaluate project / program effectiveness.
• A broad understanding of environmental regulation as it relates to pollution and waste is desirable.
