About the role: 

You will be responsible for the design, delivery and oversight of EPA’s regulatory strategy and plans. You will develop and deliver projects and activities that underpin delivery of EPA’s regulatory strategy, lead processes to identify EPA’s regulatory priorities aligned to EPA’s strategic priorities, and support the oversight of EPA’s key regulatory partnerships, to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste. 

This is an exciting role for an experienced regulatory professional that wants to contribute to the success of the EPA as it delivers a new era of environmental protection in Victoria.  Working under broad direction of the Manager, Regulatory Strategy and Strategic Projects, you will actively contribute to a positive organisational culture and achieve the highest standards of performance and integrity; fostering genuine partnerships across all levels of government, industry, and community to support the delivery organisational outcomes.

 

In this role you will:  

  • Lead the coordination and oversight of cross-organisational delivery of initiatives to address emerging regulatory challenges in line with the regulatory strategy and plan, including facilitating effective stakeholder management and decision-making with EPA’s senior leadership. 
  • Support the effective implementation and review of EPA’s regulatory strategy and plans by developing clear communications, advice, guidance and supporting materials for internal and external stakeholders, building and maintaining effective networks and relationships with stakeholder, and review, evaluate and recommend actions to improve EPA’s regulatory effectiveness.
  • Design and implement projects to implement EPA’s regulatory strategy, using good project management practices to plan, oversee, manage, monitor and quality assure delivery.
  • Actively contribute to the oversight of EPA’s partnerships with external regulatory bodies to support an integrated, modern, and agile response to preventing environmental harm across the State in coordination with relevant parts of EPA that interact with those regulatory partners.

Skills and experience: 

  • A relevant tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualifications in public policy, environmental science, law, planning, economics, humanities, or other relevant discipline is desirable.
  • Experience in design, development and delivery of strategic projects and plans, in a fast-moving and challenging public policy context preferably within Government.
  • Well-developed understanding of regulatory practice, key regulatory tools and commonly used regulatory approaches and structures.
  • Excellent communications skills including the ability to effectively communicate complex matters through clear and succinct briefings and papers, engaging presentations and effective meetings and conversations.
