Salary: VPS 4 - $97,955 to $111,142 + 12% superannuation
About the role:
You will be responsible for the leading EPA’s role as a statutory referral authority for land use and development proposals. You will assess and respond to planning applications referred by local government and other responsible authorities, providing authoritative advice aligned to EPA’s strategic priorities. In doing so you will influence land use decisions which contribute to the prevention of harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste.
In this role you will:
- Working under the direction of the Team Leader, Statutory Planning Advisory, support the delivery of EPA’s function as referral authority under the Planning and Environment Act 1987 for planning decisions where EPA is a Referral Authority or for other planning applications that may have significant environmental and/or human health impacts, or be impacted by the condition of the environment. Actively contribute to the development of a positive and high performing team culture, including identifying and implementing opportunities to improve teamwork practices.
- Provide authoritative and timely planning advice on the environmental protection framework, (and its interactions with the Planning and Environment Act 1987).
- As required and based on prioritised demand, support the broader unit in the provision of strategic planning advice and support to planning officers within State and local government, including advice on structure or precinct plans, planning scheme amendments and planning policy or process to ensure the prevention of harm to the environment and human health is considered up front in land use planning.
- Actively contribute to all aspects of EPA’s statutory planning function so that where EPA is not the primary decision maker, it is an influential, authoritative and trusted regulator which works to enhance environmental outcomes for the community.
Skills and experience:
- A relevant tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualifications in urban planning is desirable.
- Experience in land use planning, preferably within local Government.
- Extensive knowledge of the Victorian Planning System.
- Ability to identify and apply relevant government legislation, regulations, reporting directives and procedures, to achieve optimal organisational outcomes.
