About the role:

Reporting to the Team Leader, Environment Protection, the Environment Protection Officer is a member of a team sponsible for EPA’s on-ground regulatory response in the region, including education, compliance monitoring and inspections, and managing non-compliance via regulatory notices and enforcement action.  You will use your initiative to prioritise tasks and monitor workflow in delivering frontline regulatory operations, aligned to EPA’s strategic priorities, to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste. 

 

In this role you will:

  • Actively contribute to the development of a positive and high performing team culture, including by identifying and implementing opportunities to improve teamwork practices.
  • Actively support the conduct of investigations; and the delivery of preventative projects and compliance programs aligned to EPA’s regulatory priorities.
  • Participate in the response to environmental and public health emergencies and incidents.
  • Work collaboratively with co-regulators, duty holders, communities, local governments, and other partners to drive improved environmental and public health outcomes; and provide local intelligence to inform EPA’s strategic regulatory priorities.

 

Skills and experience:

  • A relevant tertiary degree or qualification is desirable.
  • Ability to be present at times and locations as required to successfully perform the role. This is usually satisfied by the possession of a current Victorian driver’s licence.
  • Ability to deliver regulatory operations to meet organisational objectives.
  • Ability to apply relevant government legislation, regulations, reporting directives and procedures, to achieve optimal organisational outcomes.
  • A broad understanding of environmental regulation as it relates to pollution and waste is desirable.
